Physicians Now Able to Access, Connect to and Exchange Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Health Information System (HIS) Information
San Jose, CA, and Belleville, NJ, April 28, 2009 – Axolotl Corp. and Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC), today announced a record-setting, successful implementation of Axolotl’s Elysium® Exchange, “Clinically Networking” disparate HIS and EMR systems so that patient information is available when and where it is needed. Clara Maass is part of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, New Jersey’s largest integrated health care delivery system.

“As EMR adoption continues to escalate, especially with the recent announcement of ARRA stimulus funding, it is imperative that physicians and their health care organizations are able to electronically exchange clinical information, securely and instantly,” said Donald Lutz, Chief Information Officer, Clara Maass Medical Center. “Axolotl’s technology was easily and quickly implemented – exceeding our goals. It was clear they were interface experts.”
Assemblyman Herb Conaway, MD
State of New Jersey Chairman
Health and Senior Services Committee
“Clara Maass’ HIE implementation is a significant achievement towards advancing the quality of health care for all New Jersey residents,” said Assemblyman Herb Conaway, MD, State of New Jersey Chairman, Health and Senior Services Committee. “By improving access to health records for patients and medical practitioners, every patient can receive the best care each and every time they seek medical attention.”
Emergency, inpatient and outpatient results can be shared electronically with a patient’s primary care physician or consultative specialist. Physicians will soon be able to communicate across disparate EMRs, sharing referrals and other patient data instantly — speeding the process of care for the patient. All patient record information is transferred securely in accordance with HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) privacy rules to ensure patient confidentiality.
Physicians will electronically receive clinical information such as results, transcribed reports and imaging information, directly into their tool of choice — an EMR or Axolotl’s Web based Elysium EMR; provided by Clara Maass to any affiliated practice. Through any secure browser, physicians can access Elysium EMR and manage their patients’ incoming clinical information, write and fill prescriptions, send a clinical message to referring physicians, order lab tests and radiology images, and much more — leveraging all ePrescribing and health information exchange incentive payments. Using the Elysium Virtual Health Record (VHR), authorized physicians can also access a comprehensive view of the patient, collected and displayed from multiple HIS and EMR systems, located across the community. Lab reports, medication history, allergies, etc. are displayed in a tabular format, and unlike a portal, allow the physician to forward relevant information directly to their own EMR.
