More Than 500 Doctors Are Now Using The Health Information Exchange, Powered By Axolotl Corp.
San Jose, CA and Rochester, N.Y. November 24, 2009 - Rochester RHIO, the regional health information organization connecting medical providers in Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates counties in New York and Axolotl Corp., the nationwide leader in health information exchange (HIE) solutions and services, today announced that over 100,000 patients have said "yes" to having their doctors view health information electronically through Rochester RHIO. All patient information in managed with Axolotl's Elysium Patient Index (MPI).
Using Elysium® Exchange, providers connected to Rochester RHIO are able to receive data directly into their EMR and view essential patient information, collected from throughout the exchange, on any computer through a secure internet log-in. Data includes lab reports, test results, medication history, allergies, radiology images and reports, and hospital discharge summaries. Emergency medical services data and information on health and human services provided to the senior community will be added to the exchange by January 2010.
Patients are given a consent form to sign to allow their doctors to view essential health information to provide faster, more accurate care; more than 97 percent of patients say "yes" when asked. In the coming months, patients will also be able to set consent online.
Stephanie Siegrist, MD said that Rochester RHIO has helped to increase efficiency in her practice. "The RHIO is a giant step forward in getting doctors the accurate, timely information they need to care for their patients."
Usage figures for the exchange include:
- About 1,500,000 clinical results added each month
- 10,000 Virtual Health Record (VHR) queries/requests for patient information were made in October
- Physicians sent 4,000 e-prescriptions in October
Ted Kremer,
Rochester RHIO Executive Director
Rochester RHIO Executive Director Ted Kremer said the organization will continue expansion in 2010. "The rapid adoption reflects the value that physicians and other providers are receiving," Kremer said. "Statistics allow us to track usage, but our ultimate goal is simply to help physicians work more efficiently and improve patient care."
The Elysium MPI and Record Locator Services (RLS) finds patient-related data across multiple sources in a federated HIE architecture. Patient consent preferences to disclose and access information is recorded by authorized users, and stored as a component of the Elysium MPI.
The regional health information organization piloted in 2007 with 26 doctors and five practices. Since the community-wide launch in March 2008, Rochester RHIO has grown to serve more than 1,700 authorized health care providers including 500 physicians.
