Elysium Exchange Demonstrates True and Secure Health Information Exchange; Physicians Securely Communicate Across Different Electronic Medical Record Systems
San Jose, CA, March 5, 2009 – Axolotl Corp. of San Jose, the leader in health information exchange (HIE) solutions and services, demonstrated their third generation architecture at the 10th Annual IHE North America Connectathon Conference, held February 23-27, in Chicago. While Axolotl’s Elysium Exchange has been seamlessly exchanging clinical data between disparate systems for over 12 years, this demonstration incorporated the new HL7 V3 architecture using Elysium as both an XDS.b Registry and Repository.
Already being used in three state-wide and by many regional and community health information exchanges, Elysium Exchange connects all healthcare providers so that clinical information can be shared quickly, securely and with patient consent.
Axolotl successfully demonstrated Elysium’s third generation architecture in five new integration profiles and actors: Patient Identifier Cross-Reference Consumer HL7 V3, XDS.b Registry, XDS.b Repository, XCA Responding Gateway, and Audit Record Repository. All profiles were built on Axolotl’s premier platform from IBM that includes DB2 and WebSphere J2EE Web application servers. All profiles will be showcased at the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase in Chicago, April 4 – 8, 2009.

“HEALTHeLINK will be one of the first customers to take advantage of Axolotl’s advances in HL7 V3 and IHE profiles,” said Dan Porreca, Executive Director. “We are connecting different electronic medical record (EMR) systems to our HIE. Axolotl’s technology enables seamless sharing of clinical information between these systems.” HEALTHeLINK is building a Learning Lab as a tool to promote physician adoption, demonstrating EMR to EMR communication. Porreca added, “Axolotl’s new capability will be pivotal in demonstrating the value of interoperability.”
“While some advanced EMR solutions are ready to exchange information using the latest HL7 standards and IHE profiles, many others are not. Axolotl continues to be well ahead of the curve in interoperability, enabling all physicians in a region or state to participate in their health information exchange,” said Ray Scott, CEO of Axolotl. “A connected, interoperable environment is critical to the health of this country. We are extremely proud of these accomplishments in furthering our product capabilities – demonstrating true and secure interoperability and moving us another step closer to our vision: Healthcare Connected.”
