"Rochester RHIO Begins Technology Deployment"
Ted Kremer
Executive Director,
gRrhio
The Greater Rochester Regional Health Information Organization (gRrhio) has embarked on the deployment of
their HIT backbone that will enable the secure exchange of patient information - compliant with New York
State’s HEAL NY HIT initiative. The initial focus of the HIE is on diagnostic data delivery combined
with EMR Lite functions, ensuring that participating providers have electronic inboxes. The diagnostic data
exchange will be followed quickly by deployment of a Community Virtual Health Record (VHR), interfacing with
3rd party EMRs and ePrescribing.
“We learned that we need to be flexible, engaged and able to respond to community concerns and value
propositions as they emerge - selecting a technology platform that supports that kind of flexibility is
critical," said Ted Kremer, Executive Director of gRrhio.
gRrhio encompasses 15 hospitals with a combined total of 3,000 beds. There are approximately 2,700 physicians
in the nine county area and surveys revealed that market penetration of fully or partially installed EMRs is
near the national average.
gRrhio is a non-profit RHIO focused on clinical initiatives. Participants include University of Rochester
Medical Center, Unity Health, Via Health, Thompson Health, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Preferred Care, and the
Rochester Business Alliance. gRrhio is working with Axolotl Corp for its technology solution. |
