Hospital Systems and IDNs |
Elysium Exchange for Hospitals is the solution to the communication
problem between acute care facilities and their ambulatory physicians,
delivering the information physicians need to provide high quality
care. Elysium Exchange for Hospitals is a suite of software
and services that instantly enable digital information distribution,
connecting hospitals to ambulatory care Electronic Medical Record
(EMR) systems and providing an "EMR light" for those doctors
not yet electronically enabled. Physicians gain immediate electronic
access to the data they need - no more waiting for paper reports and
end of day test results. Hospitals can streamline their departmental
delivery processes and avoid the need to develop or purchase point-to-point
interfaces with a variety of different EMRs. The bottom line is increased
efficiency for all, at a lower cost.
Elysium Exchange for Hospitals leverages the investment in
a hospital's legacy systems by linking to HL7 interfaces, either directly
or though the hospital's interface engine. Physicians receive electronic
documents immediately, integrated with their EMR or Elysium's
EMR-Lite, providing a complete patient record. Elysium Exchange
for Hospitals is the connectivity solution hospitals need to meet
today's interoperability challenges. And, because Elysium Exchange
for Hospitals is built on industry standards that provide for
full interoperability, hospitals that install it are instantly "Community
Ready" - able to lead and contribute to regional Health Information
Exchanges when the time is right.
Meeting Physician Demand
As admitting physicians purchase and deploy ambulatory care EMRs,
they are insisting that hospitals now send copies of lab results,
transcribed dictations and radiology reports in electronic form
directly into their EMRs. Paper delivery is no longer appropriate.
The choice of EMR is the decision of each practice, some using general
purpose EMR systems while others need specialty EMRs. While a hospital
may be able to influence some purchasing decisions it is likely
that every community will end up with a wide range of different
EMRs. Point to point interfaces from a hospital's internal systems
to each ambulatory care EMR is not a cost effective or operationally
viable solution. Using Axolotl's Elysium EdgeServer, part
of Elysium Exchange for Hospitals, the problem is easily
addressed - a single pipe through which all acute care systems can
distribute copies of their data directly into any EMR.
Going Fully Digital
No healthcare community is homogeneous. Although the rate of adoption
of EMRs is increasing, less than 25% of physician practices have
deployed them, and usage levels are reported to be considerably
lower. Hospitals are faced with the need to send data to some recipients
electronically, to others by fax and to a third group by mail or
courier, making the significant cost savings from electronic distribution
illusive. Axolotl recognizes that hospitals will not realize true
cost savings until they can distribute everything electronically.
To help reach this goal Axolotl provides its Elysium EMR-Lite
as a critical component of Elysium Exchange for Hospitals.
Elysium EMR-Lite is a secure, browser based, easy-to-use
results management tool that can be readily deployed to any admitting
practice enabling hospitals to distribute data to all its affiliated
physicians electronically. Elysium EMR-Lite has most of the
clinical data functionality of a full EMR, including an optional
e-Prescribing module, but costs little more than basic cell phone
service.
Portals - Not a Delivery Substitute
Although many hospitals have developed excellent portals to allow
physicians to access hospital data, this is not the same as delivery.
Most hospitals additionally deliver copies of results to fulfill
their duty of care obligations. Furthermore, physicians work with
multiple acute care facilities and are not prepared to log on to
a separate application for each facility to find out if data is
available on their patients. Much like email, physicians want the
data delivered, in real time, in a uniform manner and accessible
through one application which is part of their daily office workflow.
Elysium Exchange for Hospitals does exactly this.
Consolidation
In addition to solving the electronic data distribution problem,
Elysium Exchange for Hospitals, through the Elysium EdgeServer,
provides an optional database of all distributed data, organized
by patient. The database can be accessed by hospital staff, through
a secure browser, to provide a consolidated view of patient data
for a much longer period of time than is usual with acute care systems.
It can also be used to respond to queries from outside the hospital
for example from a neighboring Health Information Exchange
making the hospital instantly "Community Ready".
Implementation
Unlike EMR or HIS implementations, deploying Elysium Exchange for
Hospitals is a simple, relatively painless process. Axolotl provides
the hardware, the software and all the services necessary. Maintenance
is handled automatically and administration requirements are minimal.
Product components of Elysium Exchange for Hospitals:
Elysium
EdgeServer
Elysium EdgeServer connects to a hospitals acute care
systems, receives data across HL7 interfaces, formats, stores
and routes this data to ambulatory care physicians - in real
time. |
Elysium
EMR-Lite
Elysium EMR-Lite is a secure, browser based application
that allows physicians and support staff to access and process
results delivered by a hospital. It is as easy to use as email
and provides physician practices with an electronic medical
record system with integrated workflow management and optional
e-prescribing. Elysium EMR-Lite requires only an internet connection
and no special hardware or software. |
Elysium
Interoperability Hub
The iHub enables Elysium HIEs to deliver (push)
information from hospital and departmental information
systems (and other source data) directly to physician EMRs.
It facilitates "intercommunication" between these
Elysium Exchange and EMR-equipped practices using
any EMR system. EMR-less practices can now share discrete
information with Elysium VHR users via practice-specific
data repositories, and respond easily and securely to queries
from other Elysium network users. The iHub features
HL7 data exchange and FTP connections, and other security features.
